On October 30, 2016 SAE International released SAE Aerospace Standard AS6171: Test Methods Standard; General Requirements, Suspect/Counterfeit, Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical Parts. The intent of the standard and associated slash sheets is to standardize various test and inspection procedures, workmanship, and minimum requirements to detect counterfeit electrical, electronic, and electromechanical (EEE) parts.

Earlier this month, Advanced Component Testing, an independent electronic component test lab, performed a gap analysis between AS6171 and AS6081: Fraudulent/Counterfeit Electronic Parts: Avoidance, Detection, Mitigation, and Disposition – Distributors Counterfeit Electronic Parts; Avoidance Protocol, Distributors to demonstrate the heightened stringency required by the newer AS6171 standard. The results of the comparison were captured in the enclosed paper.
